We are seeking a skilled proofreader to review children's books for grammar, spelling, punctuation and overall flow. The selected freelancer will receive digital PDF copies of completed books to carefully review the text from cover to cover. Each book ranges from 15,000 to 30,000 words. The goal is to catch any errors, inconsistencies or areas for improvement before the books are printed and shipped to retailers.
The ideal candidate possesses expert English language skills with a strong eye for detail. Previous experience as an editor, writer, teacher or similar role is preferred. Applicants must have excellent understanding of grammar and language conventions for books aimed at ages 5-12 years old. The style is fun yet educational. Accuracy and quality are top priorities to ensure readers have the best experience.
Responsibilities include thoroughly proofing all text, flagging concerns in track changes or with comments, and providing a detailed proofreading report. Turnaround time per book is one week maximum. The client expects meticulous work to polish final drafts into print-ready form. Effective communication and organization and a commitment to deadlines is important as multiple projects may be in progress simultaneously. This is an ongoing freelance role for the right person passionate about children's publishing.
