Expected duration: Ongoing I am building a team to work with me to setup and develop a new business focussed website and I am looking for someone to work with me on the more technical aspects of setting up and maintaining the website.
I am looking to develop a long-term working relationship with the successful candidate, so while the following are the initial set of activities I have identified as needing doing, I expect the role and therefore the list of tasks to develop over time. That is why I am looking to agree an hourly rate, rather than a fixed-price for the work, although I will want to agree fixed hours for fixed deliverables within the overall arrangement.
The initial set of activities I have identified are:
1. Research the hosting market and recommend a good web hosting company, to meet current and future needs
2. Install and setup WordPress (although I could be persuaded to use an alternative), and any necessary plugins
3. Recommend, install and setup a suitable theme
4. Ensure the site setup is optimised to get the right balance of speed and functionality
5. Setup Google Analytics
6. Recommend and put in place a suitable backup solution
7. Perform on-going monitoring and maintenance to ensure the setup remains optimal
8. Identify anything else that I might have missed in the above list to get the site up and running
The key things I am looking for in the successful candidate are:
a. Demonstrable experience of setting up and maintaining websites using Wordpress, or alternative (see above)
b. Analytical. Someone who will quiz me to fully understand the requirements before recommending solutions
c. Diligence. Someone who will research into potential solutions and present a set of options and a recommendation
d. Commercial awareness. Someone who will present recommendation in terms of the associated 'business case'
e. Great communication skills. I work best with people who get to the point and don't waffle! I try to do the same.
f. Flexibility. As this is not a full time role (for either of us) I feel flexibility on both sides is important.
g. Someone who thinks through problems, and then presents potential solutions, not just problems
h. Someone who will speak up if they don't agree with my approach, but in a constructive and considered way. While I will make the final decision, I am not looking for a 'yes-person'.
